You implied that white female anorexics do it for attention and sympathy because they’re “so privileged” that they don’t have anything “more important” to worry about. Which is just not how anorexia works. Often it’s a way to try and have control over something BECAUSE they lack power in some other aspect of their lives. Often they do indeed have “more important” things to worry about than weight, but they don’t have any control over those things, and they do have control over the weight thing.

Trying to shoehorn this issue into “white privilege” is actually doing a disservice to the fact that this isn’t a “choice” and also all the anorexics that aren’t white. Just because white anorexics are the ones most commonly on pro-ana forums doesn’t mean that white women are the only people to have anorexia. They just might culturally be the main ones to go on pro-ana websites.

The way you wrote your article implies that non-white eating disorder sufferers like yourself, or white ED sufferers who have been sexually assaulted, are the ones that are suffering for a “valid” reason, and all the other ED sufferers should have “grown a thicker skin” so that they weren’t “triggered by being called fat at the age of 10 one time”. It’s insulting and wrong.
