What leads one to spiritual insight is via asking some form of these questions and seeing where it leads. Rather than reciting rote dogma or doing rituals for the sake of it. That’s my point.
You can tell someone “the truth of existence is cosmic Oneness" and it will just be words to them. They need to follow some kind of seeking quest to attain a state of truly feeling that truth. I’ve heard various combinations of “everything is connected" my whole life but it didn’t MEAN anything until I went down my own path of seeking answers and ultimately it led me to the awakening.
For some people religion may take them down that path but for many it does not. They recite scripture and do rituals but just because they’re told to. They don’t know what they’re looking for. They’re told “god is love" but they don’t FEEL it. I know because I used to be religious and I never got any spiritual insight from it. Because I didn’t have a quest. And you might be told what to do and be asked to have blind faith it will work, but unless you truly are curious and invested in your pathway it won’t work.
So in my opinion in order to have a spiritual awakening you need to have some kind of internal journey and questioning. So for religious mystics it might be “what is the true nature of God" but that is still a permutation of the question “what is the nature of reality".
Someone just telling you “the answer" doesn’t magically induce a spiritual awakening in you, that’s dogma and it doesn’t work in my opinion.
