What a horrendous story.
To be honest, if you've been in the justice system, you realise that the prosecution in general, doesn't act in good faith. It doesn't care about "the truth". It cares about WINNING. And to a prosecutor, once you've decided you can win, you will do whatever it takes to win even if that means "justice" flies out the window.
For example, a prosecutor, when given the option of "shall we prosecute for 2nd degree murder, 1st degree murder or manslaughter" - they don't actually look at both sides, figure out for themselves what the truth is, then prosecute based on that. They will look at "what's the highest charge we can win? Is it first degree? Then we'll go with that. Is it second degree? We'll go with that." Etc. It's very disturbing. I'm sure there are SOME prosecutors that want "the truth" but honestly most don't.
The justice system is kind of broken right now because the prosecution tries and goes for the maximum conviction, and they have the deep pockets of the DA and discovery is prioritised for them, and the judge usually will allow the prosecutors to decide what evidence is admissible or not. Prosecutors also have the MEDIA on their side. They are upheld as glorious righteous heroes for justice. Defence attorneys however are painted as scumbags and evil because "who would defend a murderer".
The problem is exacerbated because of the fact prosecutors don't charge unless they believe they WILL win, so domestic abuse charges, rape charges etc are often NOT prosecuted when they really should. Again, it's because prosecutors have an obsession with "winning". A successful DA can become a politician one day. Just look at Kamala Harris.
