Well they did do war crimes. They are doing a genocide right now.

This does not excuse what Hamas did. But people were wary of gleefully calling for retribution on Palestine (as many people did in the wake of Hamas's evil attacks) because we were worried this would happen - that it would be used as justification for indiscriminate bombing of civilians who are TRAPPED and CANNOT ESCAPE. And now hundreds more innocents are dead. Do you feel better now that hundreds of Gazan children are killed? Does it bring back any Israeli lives?

I do not endorse anything Hamas did. Unequivocally what they did is brutal and horrific and sadistic in the extreme. At the same time, I was very wary about how righteous condemnation of Hamas would be used to further harm a group of people who have been trapped in Gaza for years and who have far fewer resources than Israel for defence or escape.

It's like how righteous anger against Al Qaeda was used as justification to invade Iraq in the wake of 9/11. Were Americans not justified to be traumatised and angry at such a violation and thousands of deaths? Of course they were. AND YET the outcome of this, of the US seeking vengeance, was millions of deaths. Of people not even remotely related to the Saudi backed Al Qaeda.

This is what we are afraid of, of how righteous anger can be twisted to serve other ends.
