Well said. I used to have a friend who was a fantasy author. After she published her first novel, she stopped reading all other fantasy writers, even fiction writers. Because she didn't want her creativity to be "tainted" by outside influenced.

As a result she lost her inspiration. Her first and best work was inspired by her love of reading fantasy, and all the archetypes of folklore. When she shut herself off from what she loved, inspiration withered.
