It's important to recognise consciousness in those we consider "evil", because all are manifestations of the Absolute. And in fact, I know for myself that I have EVERYTHING in me, as the whole of humanity. That means the same impulses to sadism, to callousness, to schadenfreude, to dominance, as anyone that I hate.
Of course I try not to act on those impulses, because I have compassion.
But when I see someone who has committed an evil act, I know that they are not fundamentally "other" than me. Most people are scared to admit this, they want to think of evil as something "monstrous", something they couldn't even CONTEMPLATE. Because they are afraid if they acknowledge their shadow that it will overwhelm them. But evil springs from the same place as all the kind urges, all the giving, surrendering, creative urges. Parvati is Kali. Shiva is the creator and the destroyer.
