To what extent does language actually affect how oppressive a society is?

For example you use Japanese as an example of a "better and less oppressive" language because it doesn't use nouns as much.

But that didn't stop the Rape of Nanking. It didn't stop the sadistic mass murders across the Pacific during WWII. It didn't stop Japanese imperialism. It doesn't make Japan a progressive utopia today.
