Tim, you're Australian, how on earth are you getting stimulus money when you don't qualify for Jobkeeper (since you haven't seen a decline in revenue of 30% in your business and you're working for yourself) or Jobseeker (since you're not unemployed)? Sounds dodgy to me. You shouldn't be getting stimulus at all.

I'm Australian too and I haven't gotten any stimulus for these exact reasons - I don't need it and I don't qualify for it. You shouldn't either.

In terms of "is stimulus always bad" - no it isn't always bad. For example Australia came out of the COVID pandemic in far better shape economically than most countries, and we also came out of the 2008-2009 financial crisis better than any other Western country, because of stimulus money. But in both cases it was temporary.

Yes, bad businesses shouldn't be bailed out but what about small businesses that were doing just fine before COVID and through government order were forced to close and lose massive amounts of revenue while still having to pay rent and salaries? That's what Jobkeeper was for. Those businesses. And Jobseeker was to help the lower end of the income scale still afford to pay for goods and services.

Australian stimulus is not the same as American stimulus and it's weird you're conflating the two and making yourself out to be American when you are actually based in Melbourne.
