This is so well said. I wrote an article about this "continuation of consciousness" called Death, Amnesia and the Nature of Subjective Aliveness.
Basically it's in the nature of awareness to always feel continuous. It's why we don't feel as though our consciousness HAD a beginning, even though we as individuals were born. We feel like we were always awake, as far as we remember. It's always like this. So even if we die or are never born, consciousness itself will be aware in a state of seeming continuity. Just done by other brains, as you say. Or whatever sense organs it evolves.
