This is absolutely ridiculous.
I don't wear colour because I'm compensating for something. I wear colour because I like colour. Colour makes me happy. I wear jewel toned dresses and clothes to work. It's all harmonious.
It seems like you're desperately trying to disempower me and define me as lacking agency and power in my life because I like colour and not grey. It's honestly very sexist and I'm surprised at you, because I normally find your work to be intelligent and nuanced. But this article is judgemental against people who like colour, for no reason.
It's OK to have different aesthetic preferences. And there are powerful people (powerful women) who wear colour. For example the fucking Queen. Another example - Angela Merkel - most powerful member of the EU for ages. Wore almost entirely jewel toned clothes.
I think it's actually a sign of confidence in oneself when you don't feel the need to ape masculine ideals of sober conservative dressing, and still assert power. You can be feminine and powerful. You can be colourful and powerful. It is NOT a sign of weakness to not wear grey for fuck's sake. This is such a stupid argument.
