This assumes that political beliefs are always a binary. Most people in the "center" are not undecided about what they believe. Their beliefs just don't neatly fit into the binary left/right. For example they might believe in climate change and progressive social change, but believe the way to achieve that is through decentralised movements rather than more government regulation. Or they might believe in socialism, but not support redefining the definition of "biological male and female" according to whatever Twitter's latest demands are.

Left and right tend to cluster a bunch of social beliefs AND a bunch of economic beliefs together. But they don't necessarily go together. Someone might be socially one way, but economically another way. They might agree with the slogan "equal rights for all, save the planet" but fundamentally reject the premise that capitalism is the cause of oppression and the solution is to

"smash the system" and instead believe that new technologies and freedom of speech is the way to achieve their solarpunk utopia.
