Sounds like I need to give this book a read! I knew about the Rape of Nanking but I love books written by non-Western writers because they give such a different perspective.

If you like Chinese writers, I HIGHLY recommend the science fiction series "The Three Body Problem" by Cixin Liu. The best science fiction series I've ever read, and it made me realise how the Western mindset and the Chinese mindset are really different in a lot of unexpected ways, from what they find important, to the way they look at death, politics, honour etc. It really opened my mind and was a breath of fresh air in a genre that is often cliched. Plus it was one of the best "hard sci fis" I've ever read, because it goes into things like multiple dimensions from a mathematical perspective.
