My point is that saying "emotions are natural" is a way of defusing shame over having the emotions. You can have emotions and not wallow in them or act on them in unhealthy ways.

Telling anyone that feeling anger is BAD and makes you a bad person to feel it, is not helpful and just causes repression or self hatred. You can't force yourself to not feel anger. You can't shame yourself into not feeling anger. Shame is just self-directed anger.

Instead you can teach people to notice their feelings, and identify where it is in the body, and notice that it passes. That's a key thing that therapy teaches. Finding ways to deal with emotions in healthy ways. You can do things with anger that stokes it, that builds it up and fans the flames. You can try to repress it, and it can then burst forth in either self harming ways or harming others when the conscious will is impaired (for example drunk). Or you can learn to defuse it and calm it.
