"My death waits there
In a double bed
Sails of oblivion, at my head
So pull up the sheets against
The passing time..."
Bowie made the song "My Death" in the 70s, and I feel that "Lazarus" references that imagery when he pulls the sheets up on his hospital bed, seemingly in terror.
Bowie's Blackstar is one of the most profound works of art I've ever seen. He really did make his death something precious. And he gave a gift to all his fans, who can use his art as a touchstone as they themselves approach their own deaths.
