Look, I think it would have won any other year. It was even better than the first Spider-Verse movie, which won Best Animated Film the year it came out.

But I think the Academy thought "the Spider-Verse already has an Oscar, let's reward the most surreal and symbolic of Miyazaki's films since Spirited Away, especially since it could be his last film ever".

And I'm not mad at that.
