It's not so much that you shouldn't feel emotions, or that you need to wrestle with your brain to "take back control". It's more that the more you meditate the more you realise that all emotions are fleeting, and that they don't need to control you. The feeling is more of letting go of the need to be trapped in anxious thoughts for example. Rather than the feeling of needing to crush the anxious thoughts. It's a relaxing feeling rather than a battling feeling.

And you don't need to "will" yourself out of negative thoughts. I've struggled with anxiety, an eating disorder, plenty of tragedy in my life, and feeling like I needed to "will" myself out of that did nothing but cause me more shame and anger at myself that I couldn't seem to do it. Whereas with meditation and exploring nonduality, I feel a sense now of seeing what my mind was doing, and letting go of these patterns.
