It's interesting. I think the Metaverse will happen but not necessarily in the way that people imagine it. I think it may end up being less VR headsets and more screens and projectors that are like windows into spaces, and possibly holographic avatars that come into our own spaces. Upgrades from our existing virtual conferencing.

I wouldn't mind having a screen on my wall that acts as a window to my friends' homes, Middle Earth, or outer space, or a projector that bathes my room in lights that make it look like the inside of a spaceship or castle. I wouldn't mind a holographic avatar of my friend or partner in my room while we're forced to be apart by lockdowns etc, it could be more like "augmented reality" than pure virtual reality.

I bought an Oculus Quest in 2019, and I was really into it for a while, but eventually I stopped using it and sold it. Ultimately the bulkiness of VR, and the fact you can trip over things in your real spaces, and the general inconvenience of it (the controllers would run out of battery in a couple of hours, the headset would fill with sweat and taking it off revealed deep grooves in my nose and cheeks from the weight of it - meant that it was easier to just play games on the PC.
