It's also very strange that you say being an atheist is somehow connected to being right wing, when the Republican Party is the most staunchly Christian and religiously influenced party in the USA. They want religion to have even MORE sway in the legal, education and judicial system than it currently does.

Being anti-theist (being against institutional religion although not against personal faith) is NOT a right wing position. It's also not a left wing position. There are people who are anti-theist or atheist across the political spectrum, but being supportive of institutional religion having a lot of power in government is correlated VERY STRONGLY with the right wing and with religious conservatives.
