IDK I find I am the long winded talkative one in my male-dominated workplace. But then again, I work in sales, a job that requires a LOT of talking. But I've always been this way, even at school and university. The kind of person that wants to answer every question the teacher asks. The kind of person who always says something when the boss says "any questions" during a meeting. :P
I think it's good to speak up. Instead of asking men to shut up, speak up more! Don't just assume that you will be seen as unprofessional. Believe in the quality of your own ideas! If you have something valuable to say, say it. If you deserve to be paid more, say it.
If I have learned ANYTHING from working in corporate sales, it's to speak up.
What speaking up at work has gotten me:
- two pay rises
- promotion
- overseas trip
- visa to the US
- multiple of my ideas for how to improve business processes taken seriously and implemented
- the respect of my colleagues
