I was diagnosed with an eating disorder, one of those things you supposedly can’t ever fully recover from.

My partner was diagnosed with major depression and psychosis.

We’re both recovered now. It took a lot of work, therapy, and for my partner medication as well. But to imply that everyone with a “genuine mental illness" can never recover is disempowering the people you claim to support. Most mental illnesses can be recovered from. It doesn’t mean that people who don’t recover are weak, or that recovery is easy, or that there’s a one size fits all approach. But to take as a given that if you’re mentally ill you will never recover — honestly that sounds like the illness talking.
