I think there's a big difference between "what we owe to society" and "what we owe to our children, who didn't ask to be born".

Being a decent parent and not neglectful and abusive is the bare minimum expectation for any parent. Not just mothers.

As a survivor of abuse from my mother, I have very little sympathy for movie mothers that don't like being mothers and take those feelings out on their kids. They should go and sort out those feelings with an adult or several (for example a therapist) and set appropriate boundaries with the adults in their life, so they don't punish their children for the sins of misogynistic society or whatever.
