I think sometimes people go about searching for love in a mindset of "what's in it for ME", "I'm here to get the love that I deserve", "I am lonely so I will find someone to fill the void in my heart" etc.

And the people they then encounter are also looking for love in this selfish way. Almost like it's a commodity. But that's not what love is or how it works. In order to find love you have to be prepared to GIVE love. Sometimes giving before you get. Not to say you should waste emotional energy on people who contribute nothing to your life, but rather that the act of loving is what improves your life the most, being loved in return is wonderful but it's not the main thing.
