I think if you can enjoy a piece of art without financially supporting someone who spreads a reprehensible message, there's no problem with it.

For example, I am a big fan of the Ender's Game series. It's one of the best sci fi series I've ever read, and has beautiful messages.

Orson Scott Card, writer of the series, is a raging homophobe. Way worse in his rhetoric than JKR is about trans people (most of what JKR says isn't even directed at "real" trans people but the boogyman of cis male rapists allegedly pretending to be trans in order to access women's spaces).

Anyway, I abhor OSC's rhetoric about gay people, but as a bisexual woman, I still love the Ender's Game series. I just would only buy it second hand, or pirate it. I think that's fine.

I'm glad that OSC spreads good not just bad. I hope one day the good he created will outlive the hate he tried to spread in his personal life. And that will be a win for humanity, if so. I would rather not snuff out good because bad coexisted with it. I would rather keep the good.
