I think abortion should be freely available until the point at which the fetus could survive on its own outside the womb and then it should be born alive if possible. For “late term abortions” it’s almost ALWAYS because the fetus would die anyway. So it still wouldn’t survive outside the womb so abortion should again be freely available. For those rare cases where the fetus could still survive at the point a “late term abortion” is required, I don’t see why they can’t just be prematurely born instead? At that late point abortion is as traumatic the the mother’s body as birth or a C-section would be, so why not just deliver the baby and let it take its chances surviving on its own?
I don’t see this as intellectually inconsistent.
