I mean, sometimes the love of your life might die of cancer before their time. Or even if they die older, you might still have to have decades without them. I feel like that can still be "the love of your life" though. Like, take Iman and David Bowie. Their love was absolutely soulmate level, and she still is as deeply in love with him 6 years after his death as she was when he was alive. And she says she will never remarry, that David was "the one" and her eternal love.
She said that she hoped young people who were starting their romantic journeys would "have something like I had. Ife we're lucky we get something to hold on to, and that will sustain us for the rest of our lives".
That's definitely "love of your life" but Iman may have to live without David for another 20 years or more... :(
