I love the point you made about a better way forward being "let's focus on celebrating ACTS not PEOPLE". Because it's true, many heroes who did wonderful things did bad things in other aspects of their life.
Take darlings of the left: Gandhi and MLK. Gandhi was sexist, he inappropriately touched his younger female relatives, and he was anti-black. MLK was a domestic abuser.
And yet - they were also heroes in many ways, and did a huge amount of good for millions of people.
No one is a saint, and no one should be venerated like they are perfect.
Should their good ACTIONS be celebrated? Absolutely!
