I have heard though from many trans activists that requiring medical transition to be a long and careful process that is mediated by multiple medical professionals, is transphobic. There's a vicious debate going on between "transcutes" and "transmedicalists" about this. Trans activist Contrapoints did a video explaining the difference between the two views.
So while medical/hormonal transitioning may be a process that requires medical professionals currently, there IS a push by some elements of the trans movement to do away with these safeguards.
