I guess I'm fortunate to have a high happiness set point. I've gone through a lot of trauma - parental abuse, an eating disorder, a tragic event where my partner became psychotic due to magic mushroom ingestion and killed a dear friend while under a delusion that the friend was trying to kill him... suicidal friends, suicidal partner, family estrangement, financial stress...
And yet for all that I see the positive in everything and would say completely honestly "I love life, and I'm happy".
Meanwhile I have a friend who has a pessimistic outlook despite having an objectively "better" life. I guess her happiness set point is low. I wish I could help her.
