I get what you’re saying about whiteness being a social construct and a “class" but I wasn’t talking about that.

The OP was talking about individuals who identify was white. I was also talking about all the online POC I have seen addressing open letters to individual albeit generalised “white people”. Meant to be read by an individual as if it was written for them. Lecturing the melanin challenged reader about their individual responsibility for their class’s behaviour, telling them that they can never escape their culpability.

It is a catch 22 and I’m glad you don’t feel that way but a great many people who are well intentioned feel as though there is a genetic brand of shame they’ve inherited because they are defined as white.

It’s not the same thing as racism so don’t come for me with “structural oppression doesn’t exist against white people", I know that.

But it’s something. And it’s paralysing.
