I don't fully agree with you on this one. I respect your choice for yourself, but I can't help but feel kind of sad that you haven't been able to listen to music for four months. I mean, if you wanted to listen to it, and deprived yourself instead.

I do understand however the argument for being less constantly entertained. My vice is Youtube videos. I got into listening to mildly entertaining Doctor Phil or Gordon Ramsey or true crime videos when I was dealing with a severely stressful and traumatic experience (my fiance killing someone, going to jail, preparing for trial/sentencing and dealing with his suicidality). As such I would find the only thing that could help me deal with the overwhelming emotions and allow me to function normally in my job so I wouldn't break down, was mildly entertaining but low stakes distraction. And yes you can argue that I should have let myself break down, but trust me, I couldn't, because I needed the money.

The problem is it's now become a habit, to listen to Youtube videos all the time and it can definitely cause dissociation. I've found that listening to music is not the same kind of thing, because for me having synaesthesia, music is my biggest inspiration for creativity.
