I don't agree. I don't believe there is a separation between spirit and flesh. If you look at the evolution of existence since the Big Bang, you don't see anything separate from matter. And yet here we are with consciousness. To me, this indicates that matter and consciousness are one. This means that your individual ego-spirit is the interaction of all the cells in your body, the electrical impulses, the patterns of energy, plus all the energy waves coming in and through from the environment, while the Cosmic Consciousness encompasses everything in existence. Not separate from, but living as all of us and everything. This is how I see pantheism.

As a pantheist, I believe the duality between matter and soul is an illusion. If this is so, then the flesh and the soul are not at war, in fact believing that they are can lock you into shame for things like wanting to have sex (so many religions see sex as inherently evil and corrupt when it's not).

This is where I am at odds with many Christian views of the body and more in line with Hindu perceptions of the body. In Hinduism, moksha (liberation/enlightenment) is only one part of living a fulfilling life. Kama (the joy and pleasure of the body and heart) is another part. Dharma (righteousness/moral action) is another, as is artha (prosperity).

We have bodies for a reason. They're not a punishment, they are a vehicle for Divine Consciousness to experience existence. We evolved pleasure receptors because it served Divine Consciousness/Life Energy to do so.

Yes it's possible to be led astray into an immoral and harmful life by the pleasures of the flesh. But that's why you don't have Kama in isolation, but alongside Dharma and Moksha.

But hey, maybe saying this is "the Devil" according to you, and pure evil. I don't think it is, but you can think what you want.
