I completely disagree. My fiance and I started as friends, a few years into our friendship he told me he had feelings for me. I said "thanks, I'm flattered, but I like you as a friend. He RESPECTED THAT and stayed my friend and didn't bring up his feelings again. Because he valued my friendship as friendship, and wouldn't throw it away because of his romantic feelings. Then about 2 years later, I had feelings for HIM and I said "hey you know how you told me you had feelings for me a while back, do you still feel that way? Because now I have feelings for you..." and he DID and then over a few more years we grew closer together, finally got into a relationship, and now we're deeply in love. So yeah, I'm very glad he had feelings for me. But this story is testament to HOW to tell someone you like them as more than a friend, and if they friendzone you, to not pressure them or ruin the friendship.
