I believe in the Gaia hypothesis, because I'm panpsychist. I think it's layers of collective consciousnesses containing collective consciousnesses all the way up and all the way down.

The problem with using the word "Gaia" is it anthropomorphises the collective consciousness of Earth. Whereas the nature of "Gaia's" subjective experience is likely to be as unimaginable to us as a bacteria's subjective experience is to our own (as a collective consciousness of trillions of bacterial and human cells).
