I agree to a certain extent. For example some actors were nominated for Best Actor (Leo and Brad for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) when they really weren’t that spectacular, especially when compared to other nominees like Joaquin Phoenix or Adam Driver, who really do deserve their nominations. As a result you do wonder if the nominations aren’t really meritocratic as we like to believe they are. It makes you wonder if better performances by other actors were overlooked because they weren’t as famous, or maybe because of racism. Maybe they weren’t but I find it hard to believe that Leo in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was one of the top 5 performances this year. It wasn’t even in the top 5 Leo performances.
