Hopefully my self esteem and identity won't be so tied to a specific place and time in history that its inevitable impermanence won't destroy my will to live.

Everything is impermanent. Nothing lasts. Times change. Technology changes. Tastes change. Locations, ways of being. Lives change. Lives end. Memories fade and are eventually lost forever.

That has always been true. And it will continue to always be true. Accepting it and valuing the fragile vanishing beauty of the present - our loved ones, each irreplaceable experience - is the only way to avoid this kind of ennui, I think. In a way, the fact something ends makes it all the more precious while it does exist.
