Great article. I agree it's frustrating that they seem to think if they have a queer main character they can't focus on the queer love of that character or any positive relationships with other queer characters in a meaningful way, unless it's specifically a queer romance film.
For example I don't know if they'll ever do a David Bowie biopic but if they do they better not depict David's bisexuality and relationships with people like Mick Jagger as being part and parcel of his descent into addiction, darkness and bad behaviour during the 70s, in contrast to him being sober and married to Iman.
David choosing to be sober, cleaning up his life, becoming a healthier person overall - that doesn't negate his queerness and indeed he was close with Mick Jagger even after he was sober so even if they didn't stay lovers they did stay friends. And just because David married a woman who was his soulmate doesn't negate his bisexuality.
