Great article! I was a huge fan of the Anne books as a kid and read all of them multiple times. I also loved the Emily of New Moon books. I think Anne is bisexual, because while I do think the original books show her as genuinely in love with Gilbert (who she sees as her best friend and intellectual equal eventually) she absolutely does have passionate feelings towards Diana and other women, that involve a heightened appreciation for their beauty. And when Anne is a teenager she feels devastated at the idea of either her or Diana marrying as it will take them away from each other. They also do ceremonies where they exchange hair locks that they keep in mutual necklaces. It’s very queer. As a bisexual person myself I could relate. 😁
