Great article.

The stuff about the low percentage of police murders of unarmed black people and how the media narrative causes mass fear among black people when actually they don’t need to be so afraid, reminds me of the narrative on “the transgender murder epidemic" which causes many trans people to fear being out in public. When actually trans women are less likely to be murdered than cis women once you crunch the numbers. Doesn’t mean that those who were murdered didn’t matter, but the average trans person can maybe breathe a little easier knowing their likelihood of dying by murder is very low.

It’s also the same with being a woman and worrying about being raped by a stranger if you’re out at night. It’s a very very very low likelihood and yet the media sometimes portrays being female as being a major hazard every time you step outside your door.

We should always ask who benefits by us living in fear?
