Eh, I like to sit in the passenger seat because I enjoy not driving. To me driving is stressful. It's not "taking away my power", because if I'm in a car with someone I trust them to go where we mutually agreed to go. So if I say "turn left" or something I expect to be listened to. But I'm not having to be hyper vigilant about blind spots, intersections, the risks of crashing etc.

So to me it's not about "the assumption of who is steering things, who is the assumed person in charge". If I'm in a car with someone and we are partners, or family, then I expect to have a say in where we're going. If I didn't I wouldn't have gotten into the car in the first place.

We're not passive little victims sitting in a car with no agency. Just because we're not driving doesn't mean we don't have an equal say in where we're going.
