Drag is one of my favourite art forms. I appreciate it so much. Especially for drag artists for whom the character isn't just a stage character, but part of who they feel themselves to become.
One of the reasons for this is that I literally created an alter-ego for myself as a teenager, I gave her a goddess name, and I manifested that version of myself into reality by essentially becoming and acting as that version of me. It is a form of drag, but real life. I dress in fantastical clothing, create headdresses out of flowers, leaves and fruit, essentially present as a cross between someone from A Midsummer Night's Dream, a sorceress, and an artist. People often ask me "what are you dressed up for?" and I say "because I feel like it".
Drag is manifestation of the ego as a character - which is the way the ego should be treated, with a sense of play and artistry. The ego and the individual self is a performance, is a form of art - why not have fun with it? Why not be fabulous?
I know that's how I want to live my life!
