Brilliant article, but Neo's not white. And Morpheus is there to support and protect "The One" but it's not because he's white. The "One" could be anyone. Trinity is also there to protect "The One" and she's white. I wouldn't call Morpheus a caricature. He does have other goals and desires outside of helping Neo. His whole mission is to free people from the Matrix and he didn't even know what race Neo was during the years he's been searching for the "One". But the Matrix shows that Morpheus was a "father" to the two freeborn men on the Nebuchadnezzar, that he had a devoted following on Zion, that he had a love life - in short he had goals and desires beyond supporting Neo - in fact one could argue that Morpheus wanted to find Neo so that Neo could fulfil the overall desires of MORPHEUS to free people from the Matrix (something Neo wouldn't have known about unless Morpheus woke him up).
The Oracle isn't there to prop up Neo either. She seems to be but actually she has an ulterior motive which is hidden during the first Matrix. She only talks to Neo once in the first Matrix and is shown to be training a bunch of "potentials" (not all of whom are white) as another part of her job.
Anyway Keanu isn't white but mixed race. His father is hapa and he also has Asian ethnicity. I get that he's pale skinned and passes for white but he's not.
I don't think it's fair to call the Matrix, a story about fighting against oppressive societal structures, where the main character is mixed race, and the "Gandalf" character is Black, a story that reinforces "whiteness". You could even see Morpheus as the key player in the first Matrix movie, not Neo. He pulls the strings to get Neo to come to him. He wakes Neo up. He does everything he can to activate Neo's powers so that Neo can be used by the human movement against the Matrix.
