Because that's probably not true.

Instead of illuminating the victims’ plight, why not shine that light where it really belongs? Why not say at least 1 in 3 men will commit physical or sexual violence on an intimate partner over their lifetimes? How would that affect men’s perception of the prevalence of violence?

Because that's probably not true. I would say the average abuser abuses multiple people across their lifetime. Therefore their statistical impact is larger.
